My art work is my life and what I love doing. Sometimes I work/play on my art 24 hours a day.

I started out as a technician working for Kodak when I was 21 years old. Went to night school while I worked at Kodak and got my BS in Chemistry. Left Kodak at 29 because I wanted to become an artist. Took many painting classes and at 35 and went back to school to get my MFA in painting.

I have been showing my artwork for more than 40 years now.

About 8 years ago I acquired the studio next to my studio and remodeled into my own gallery, this freed me up to be able to make any kind of art that I can imagine.

I see my art as a journey, a learning experience, a challenge to myself of something that want to learn more about.

Right now I am working on an alphabet of 20 letters that when completed will become an autobiographical book. Each letter of the alphabet is a chapter of this book and a themed art installation. Samples of my previous exhibits are: “A is for Art”, “F is for Fantasy”, “M is for Mother”, “P is for Places”. “W is for WordPainting.”

Upcoming exhibits that I already started working on are: “G is for Gourmet” in 2016, “Destiny” a book installation and a collaboration with Martha Schermerhorn in 2017, “D is for DNA” in 2021, “H is for Henry” A screenplay/installation for a movie about my grandfather in 2023.

  3. hi kathy, i love that you combine your love of different art forms. i work in several different media as well, but have never really combined them beyond taping photos in a journal. your work is beautiful and inspiring and i look forward to seeing more.

    Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m glad you liked it and decided to follow me.
    I think its great that you went back to school and decided to follow your artistic side. I went back to school, really only to please my grandmother. I took chemical engineering since I thought I would at least be able to get a good job. I already had a good job!
    Long story short, chemical engineering was NOT for me, tho I did like messing around in the lab. I got a degree in math since it was the easiest way for me to graduate. I’ve never used it and probably never will. But it made my grandma happy. 🙂
    I went back to doing what I love. Just hoping at some point I’ll be able to do more of all the OTHER things I love too.

I am glad you love what you are doing. Life is too short to be in a field that we don’t enjoy to the fullest.   21. Rochester? I seem to remember from man analog photo days that that’s where Kodak had their main site? How times passes by (faster and faster) and even a comapany like Kodak was more or less left behind . . ..

  22. Yes, I was very lucky to have worked for Kodak in the 70’s, that is when Kodak was into a lot of different fields, including solar energy, one of the special research labs where I worked. I left Kodak at a good time, the decline started in the 80’s. It is sad, that there is not much left from Kodak now, about one half of the buildings have been torn down and made into parking lots, and most of the rest sold.

    Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

    My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures since the 70′s, as well as day to day happenings on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it. Of course, if you have any suggestions for me, I’d love to hear from you, serious.

    In return, I promise not to be overbearing with perhaps 2-3 posts a day tops. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

I am 69 and have been doing art ect most of my life and I too have been enjoying retirement steeped in my creating. We are so lucky to be able to indulge. I also love backpacking.

    Thank you so much for commenting in my blog. I am so glad I found your blog. I love your hand made books. They have inspired me to make a few and maybe a complete exhibit. Thank you also for the great bibliography. Also in your last post I noted how you very lovingly described your garden and said that you talk to your plants and flowers, I do the same.
    I am curios as to where do you like to go backpacking? I have done parts of the Appalachian trail, the Adirondack’s, but my favorite place is the backcountry in Utah.

    • I just got around to realising you asked a question. Where do I like backpacking. Anywhere but I have to say the best so far was my friend and I were booked on a backpacking tour of Syria and surrounds but it was cancelled 2 days before we were to leave due to the troubles there. We booked a flight to Istanbul, booked into a little hotel on Gulhaine, bought a Lonley Planet book on the way to the airport and spent seven weeks roaming around. We had no accommodation booked other than three days in Istanbul and we travelled all on public transport. I cannot speak highly enough of Turkey and her people. We had the very best time not just in the tourist areas but with the local people all around.

      Very interesting how very small the world is… I am very familiar with the Thousand Islands. My father was a Seaway Pilot and he took the large ships from Massena to Cape Vincent through the Thousand Islands.

  39. I love that your understand the creative connections between chemistry (science) and art. I worked as a lab tech in a couple of different fields before quitting that at 29 (sound familiar?) to run away to sea. Travel became my life and I finally have a chance now to write about all of that. Thanks for making my site one of your ‘blogs I follow’! I will try not to let you down.
